NATIONAL WAFFLE DAY

The first United States patent for a waffle iron was issued to Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, New York on August 24, 1869.  In honor of this anniversary, National Waffle Day is observed each year on August 24th.

Eaten throughout the world, a waffle is a leavened batter or dough that is cooked between two plates that are patterned to give a characteristic size, shape and surface impression.  Waffles come in many forms.  Depending on the type of batter or iron used, the resulting waffle vary by consistency, size, shape and flavor.

Waffle irons and waffles originated around the 14th century.  An anonymous husband penned the first known waffle recipe as a set of instructions for his wife.  According to the manuscript, Le Ménagier de Paris, each of the four recipes began: 

Beat some eggs in a bowl, season with salt and add wine. Toss in some flour, and mix. Then fill, little by little, two irons at a time with as much of the paste as a slice of cheese is large. Then close the iron and cook both sides. If the dough does not detach easily from the iron, coat it first with a piece of cloth that has been soaked in oil or grease.

এসি কেনার আগে দেখে নিন।

শুধুমাত্র ব্র্যান্ডমুগ্ধতা থেকে ঝপ করে এসি কিনে ফেলবেন না। ফ্রিজ-টিভি-ওয়াশিং মেশিনের মতো এসি কেনাও দরকার বুঝেশুনে। তবেই বাঁচবে বিদ্যুতের বিল এবং ঠিকঠাক ঠান্ডা হবে ঘর। দেখে নিন এয়ারকন্ডিশন কেনার ১০টি টিপ্‌স—

১) প্রথমেই মাথায় রাখতে হবে বিদ্যুৎ কতটা পুড়বে। এর উপর নির্ভর করে বাজারের সমস্ত এসিকে ‘স্টার’ রেটিং দেওয়া হয়। এই রেটিং দেয় ব্যুরো অফ এনার্জি এফিসিয়েন্সি। ১ থেকে ৫ পর্যন্ত হয় রেটিং। ফাইভ স্টার এসি মানেই বিদ্যুৎ পুড়বে সবচেয়ে কম। একই টনেজের এবং একই ব্র্যান্ডের ফাইভ স্টার এসির দাম অন্যান্য মডেলের চেয়ে তুলনামূলকভাবে বেশি হয়। কেনার সময়ে দাম বেশি পড়লেও ভবিষ্যতে প্রতি মাসের বিদ্যুতের কথা ভেবে যত বেশি স্টার-সম্পন্ন এসি কিনবেন, ততই আপনার পকেটের পক্ষে ভাল।
২) যত বড় এসি, তত ঠান্ডা হবে ঘর, হিসেবটা এত সোজা নয়। যদি মনে করে থাকেন যে একটি ছোট ঘরকে চিল্‌ড রাখতে ইয়া বড় এসি কিনতে হবে তবে ভুল ভাবছেন। ঘরের মাপ অনুযায়ী কত টনের এসি প্রয়োজন তার একটি তালিকা রয়েছে। প্রয়োজনের তুলনায় বেশি বড় এসি কিনলে ঘর ঠিকঠাক ঠান্ডা হবে না। নীচের তালিকাটি মনে রাখবেন—

ঘরের মাপ (স্কোয়্যার ফিট)            কত টনের এসি

১২০ পর্যন্ত                                      ০.৭৫ টন  

১২১ থেকে ১৫০                               ১ টন

১৫১ থেকে ২৫০                                ১.৫ টন

২৫১ থেকে ৪০০                           ২ টন ও তার বেশি

ঘর এর থেকেও বড় হলে কোনও বড় ব্র্যান্ডের শোরুমে গিয়ে কথা বলুন। ওঁরাই বলে দেবেন কত টনের ক’টি এসি লাগবে।

৩) এখন প্রায় সব বাড়িতেই স্প্লিট এসি লাগানোর চল। এই এসিগুলি উইনডো এসির চেয়ে দেখতে অনেকটাই স্লিক। তাছাড়া একটি জানলা জুড়ে বসেও থাকে না। কিন্তু যাঁরা ঘন ঘন বাড়ি পাল্টান তাঁদের পক্ষে উইনডো এসিই ভাল কারণ স্প্লিট এসির ইনস্টলেশন উইনডো এসির থেকে সহজ হলেও এর রি-ইনস্টলেশন চার্জ অপেক্ষাকৃত বেশি। তা বাদে এই দুই ধরনের এসি-তে কমবেশি একই পরিমাণ বিদ্যুৎ পোড়ে। তবে ঘর বড় হলে উইনডো এসি না কেনাই ভাল।

৪) এসি কেনার সময় ভালভাবে খেয়াল করবেন এসিতে কোনও আওয়াজ হচ্ছে কি না। স্প্লিট এসিগুলিতে আওয়াজ অনেক কম হয়। শান্তিতে ঘুমোনো বা কাজ করার পক্ষে ভাল।

৫) বাজেট খুব একটা সমস্যা না হলে রিভার্স সাইক্‌ল এসি কিনুন যাতে গরমকালে ঠান্ডা হাওয়া আর শীতকালে গরম হাওয়ার সুবিধা পাবেন। এগুলির দাম সাধারণ এসিগুলির তুলনায় অনেকটাই বেশি।

৬) বাড়ির সব ঘরে এসি লাগানো বেশ খরচসাপেক্ষ। সেক্ষেত্রে মাস্টার বেডরুমের জন্য একটি উইনডো বা স্প্লিট এসি কিনে সঙ্গে আর একটি পোর্টেবল এসি কিনে নিন যা এক ঘর থেকে আর এক ঘরে সহজেই তুলে নিয়ে যাওয়া যাবে। পোর্টেবল এসিগুলির দাম স্বাভাবিকভাবেই তুলনায় কম।

৭) ঘরের ভিতরের হাওয়া কেমন তার উপর কিন্তু এসির আয়ু নির্ভর করে। দূষিত বাতাস ঘরে জমে থাকলে ঘর ঠিকঠাক ঠান্ডা হয় না। ভাল ব্র্যান্ডের এসিগুলিতে ভাল এয়ার ফিল্টার থাকে। এসি কেনার সময় এই বিষয়টি মাথায় রাখবেন।

৮) যে এসি কিনছেন তাতে যেন একটি অ্যাডজাস্টেব্‌ল থার্মোস্ট্যাট, দু’টি কুলিং স্পিড এবং অন্ততপক্ষে দু’টি ফ্যান স্পিড থাকে যাতে ঘরের তাপমাত্রা অনুযায়ী ইচ্ছেমতো নিয়ন্ত্রণ করা যায় ঠান্ডা।

৯) আফটার সেল্‌স সার্ভিস যে কোনও হোম অ্যাপ্লায়েন্সের ক্ষেত্রেই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। তাই এসি কেনার আগে কোম্পানির সার্ভিস কতটা ভাল সেই বিষয়ে ভাল করে খোঁজ খবর করে নেবেন।

১০) আর্দ্র জলবায়ু অঞ্চলে বাড়ি হলে যে সমস্ত এসির কয়েল অ্যালুমিনিয়ামে তৈরি সেই সমস্ত এসি না কেনাই ভাল। অ্যালুমিনিয়াম কয়েলে খুব তাড়াতাড়ি মরচে পড়ে যায়, গ্যাস লিক করতে থাকে এবং ঘর ঠান্ডা হয় না। তাই সব সময় কপার কয়েলের এসি কেনাই বুদ্ধিমানের কাজ। সব জলবায়ুতেই ভাল কাজ দেবে।

দরদাম

গরমের কথা মাথায় রেখে দেশীয় প্রতিষ্ঠান ‘ওয়ালটন’ বাজারে এনেছে বিভিন্ন মডেলের এয়ার কন্ডিশনার। বিভিন্ন জায়গায় ওয়ালটনের শো রুমে পাওয়া যাবে চারটি ভিন্ন ভিন্ন মডেলের এয়ার কন্ডিশনার। মানভেদে এসব এয়ার কন্ডিশনারগুলোর দাম ৩২ হাজার থেকে ৫৫ হাজার ৭০০ টাকা পর্যন্ত। শর্তসাপেক্ষে ওয়ালটন এসিতে দিচ্ছে ছয় মাসের রিপ্লেসমেন্ট গ্যারান্টি এবং তিন বছরের সার্ভিস ওয়ারেন্টি।

এছাড়াও রাজধানীর বিভিন্ন বিপনিবিতান ঘুরে জানা গেলো বর্তমানে বাজারে প্যানাসনিক, এলজি, সনি, ক্যারিয়ার, শার্প এবং ওয়ারপুল ব্র্যান্ডের এসির চাহিদা বেশি।

বসুন্ধরা সিটির ‘সোর্স ট্রেডিং’য়ে ‘প্যানাসনিক’ ব্র্যান্ডের এক টন ক্ষমতার ইনভার্টার এসি পাওয়া যাবে ৭৫ হাজার টাকায়। দেড় টন ক্ষমতার ইনভার্টার এসি কিনতে হলে গুনতে হবে ১ লাখ টাকা। একই ব্র্যান্ডের ইকোন্যাভি এসির দাম এক থেকে দেড় টনের জন্য ৭৩ হাজার টাকা থেকে ৯৫ হাজার টাকা।

এছাড়া প্যনাসনিক’য়ের এক টন ক্ষমতার এসিতে ইনভার্টার এবং ইকোন্যাভি অপশন একই সঙ্গে পেতে হলে খরচ করতে হবে ৮৫ হাজার টাকা থেকে দেড় লাখ টাকা।

এই এয়ার কন্ডিশনারগুলোর ওপর দুই বছরের পার্টস ওয়ারেন্টি এবং তিন বছরের বিক্রয়োত্তর সেবা দেওয়া হচ্ছে।

মিরপুর এগারোতে এলজি’র নিজস্ব শো রুমে পাওয়া যাবে বিভিন্ন মডেলের স্প্লিট এয়ার কন্ডিশনার। এক্ষেত্রে এক থেকে দেড় টন ক্ষমতার এলজি এসি গুলোর দাম হতে পারে ৫৫ হাজার থেকে ১ লাখ ১০ হাজার টাকা পর্যন্ত। এলজি’র এসিগুলোর দাম কিস্তির মাধ্যমে দেওয়া যাবে। এক্ষেত্রে এসির মূল দামের ৫০ শতাংশ পরিশোধ করে বাকি টাকা সাড়ে তিন শতাংশ সুদ হারে তিন কিস্তিতে পরিশোধ করা যাবে।

এছাড়াও র‌্যাংগস’য়ের এক থেকে দুই টন ক্ষমতার এসি ৫১ হাজার থেকে ৬৪ হাজার টাকায়, ‘ক্যারিয়ার’ ব্র্যান্ডের এসি ৪৫ হাজার থেকে ৯৫ হাজার টাকায় এবং ‘ওয়ারপুল’য়ের দেড় থেকে দুই টনের এসি ৭৪ হাজার টাকা থেকে ৯৫ হাজার টাকায় পাওয়া যাবে। ‘স্যামস্যাং’য়ের এক টন ক্ষমতার এসি পাওয়া যাবে ৫২ হাজার থেকে ৫৫ হাজার টাকায়।

উইন্ডো এসি’র ক্ষেত্রে জেনারেল’য়ের দেড় টনের এসি পাওয়া যাবে ৫২ থেকে ৫৫ হাজার টাকায়। একই ব্র্যান্ডের দুই টনের উইন্ডো এসি কিনতে হলে গুনতে হবে ৬৫ থেকে ৬৯ হাজার টাকা। ‘ক্যারিয়ার’য়ের উইন্ডো এসি পাওয়া যাবে ৪৫ থেকে ৬০ হাজার টাকার মধ্যে। একই দামের মধ্যে ‘গ্রি’ ব্র্যান্ডের উইন্ডো এসি পাওয়া যাবে।

যত্নআত্তি

শহরের বিভিন্ন এয়ার কন্ডিশনার শো রুমের বিক্রয় প্রতিনিধিদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে জানা গেল এসির ক্ষেত্রে প্রধান সমস্যা হল ‘কুলিং’ বা ঠাণ্ডা করার ক্ষমতা কমে যাওয়া। এক্ষেত্রে এসির ভেতরের নেট খুলে ডাস্ট ক্লিনিং করে নিতে হবে। ব্যবহারকারী নিজেই সাধারণ উপায়ে এসির ইনডোর খুলে নেট ওয়াশ করে নিতে পারেন।

এছাড়া কুলিং একেবারে বন্ধ হয়ে গেলে বুঝতে হবে এসির ভেতরে গ্যাস ফুরিয়ে গেছে। এক্ষেত্রে সংশিষ্ট প্রতিষ্ঠানের গ্রাহক সেবা প্রদানকারী প্রতিনিধিদের মাধ্যমে গ্যাস রিফিল করে নিতে পারেন। বিক্রয়োত্তর সেবা প্রদানের সময় পার হয়ে গেলে সার্ভিস চার্জ প্রদান করতে হবে।
